Ever since the beginning of automobiles, there has been gear shifting. Ever since the beginning of motorsport, gear shifting has always been paramount in winning. Formula-X is no different.
While F-X is no different when it comes to racers needing to know when to shift, there is a difference in how it’s done. While Formula Racing and IndyCar emphasize semi-automatic sequential shifting on the steering wheel, Formula-X uses manual gearshift.
The use of the manual gearshift — while dangerous — is prominent in Africa having been revolutionized by Auto 1. While African racing didn’t invent the concept, their adherence to it over semi-automatic shifting has brought renewed focus to it.
While Auto 1 and Formula-X do use gear-shifting, it is important to note that these vehicles use sequential manual transmission not dissimilar to a motorcycle where gears must be followed in order. The reason behind this is so that drivers only have to focus on when to shift rather than also making sure they shift into the right gear.
In Formula-X, shifting gears at exactly the right time becomes even more important in drag races.
All Formula-X engines have between 6 gears and 8.
