ORDER OF THE GAUNTLET

After sharing words with each other about who would be the one to “break the gauntlet” on Fame-Frame, the three gauntleteers were told that they would be in qualifying races to see who would race Solo first, second and then last.

Qualifying sessions have not been held on the Fuel Speedway since the qualifying sessions for The Scramble which saw every entrant getting an opportunity to achieve the fastest lap. These qualifiers were held in the same vain except that it was only between Thawn Oberhauser, Styles Sithole and Juan van Zonder and it was the honor of last place that was up for grabs.

The last place position is the most coveted in this race since at this point, the gauntlet runner — being Solo Magubane — would have already completed 20 laps (assuming the gauntlet hadn’t already been broken) and thus the last gauntleteer would still be fresh compared to the gauntlet runner.

While this would suggest breaking the gauntlet would be easier for the last gauntleteer, this may not actually be the case. It has been suggested by Captain Khumalo that racers who are stronger in the last 3rd of their races would technically have the advantage against the last gauntleteer and atop of that, Solo had championship racing experience from Auto 1 and this will play a part.
