In an effort to show the world what a race with the power-boost banned would look like,
the showrunners gave Mandla his wish and set the feature-race for Monday Night Fuel to be a replay from The Scramble with Mandla taking on Thawn.
The feature-race was a thrilling affair with both oppo-nents knowing each other so well that when each had the lead, they systematically blocked each other from overtaking hoping to hold the lead until the fifteenth and final lap.
By the time the final lap came around, Thorne had managed to gain the lead and try as he might, Mandla failed to regain the lead and take the race even though the final few seconds were filled with hope that he could.
While the victory was consid-ered an upset, there are those that say otherwise. Looking back at the races between the two from the past, many have taken the stance that Mandlahas always been his strongest in the first and last third of their races with Thorne dom-inating the middle. They went on to say that had this been a One KM Derby or a 20 Lap Circuit Race, the race would have been Mandla’s.
The evidence seems to support this as Mandla could be seen starting to regain his momentum towards the end but ran out of laps to do it.
The irony of course is that if he had power-boost, he would have won.
